Lazara Napoles

"My professional journey in dance and folklore began with my studies at the prestigious Escuela Nacional de Arte (ENA), where I graduated in 1981. Following graduation, I fulfilled my social service obligation at the Conjunto Folklórico Nacional de Cuba, the nation's premier folkloric company. Two years later, I earned my place as a full member of the company, quickly advancing to the esteemed category of Soloist Dancer.

Over a celebrated career, I have represented Cuban culture through numerous national and international tours, sharing the profound heritage of Afro-Cuban and popular dance with audiences worldwide. This period also included a significant collaboration as an assistant for the Havana Carnival, contributing to the iconic Comparsa El Cabildo under the guidance of the masterful choreographer, Domingo Pau.

My commitment to the art form extends into teaching and artistic direction. I served as a professor for the Cuban Television Ballet, and currently, I hold the positions of Professor, Rehearsal Master (Ensayeradora), and Maîtrewithin the Conjunto Folklórico Nacional de Cuba. Furthermore, I am a dedicated member of the Evaluation Commissionfor the company and other national dance entities.

With 43 years of unwavering experience in the cultural sector, my life's work is dedicated to the preservation, evolution, and transmission of Cuba's rich dance legacy."
