The Canarias Salsa Open 2022 dance competition will take place on 25, 26 and 27 August in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. After two years of inactivity, in which the event could not be held due to health restrictions, the World Salsa Open returns in style to the islands. In addition to the competition, other dance-related activities are also planned. The organisers have scheduled the presentation of the musical "El Sonido De La Calle", dance workshops and deejays, and two categories of the España Salsa Open: couples and soloists.
On Monday 27th June the registration for the Canarias Salsa Open and España Salsa Open competitions, which will take place on Saturday 27th August at the Centro de Arte La Recova in the capital of Tenerife, officially opened. Other activities will also be held on the same stage for three days, from the 25th to the 27th of next month.
In this year's edition of the Canarias Salsa Open, several modalities have been incorporated. Couples and Soloists have always been the highlight of the competition. This year, Groups (a minimum of three couples and a maximum of five) and Duos (dance couples of the same genre) have been added. These new categories will take place if there are at least five entries for each qualifying round. As for the España Salsa Open, which will only be open to residents of an autonomous community of the Iberian Peninsula, the categories are Couples and Mixed Soloists.
Another new feature of the CSO 2022 is the prizes and incentives for the winners in each category. As the World Salsa Open will not take place in 2022, by decision of the franchise as the pandemic prevented the preparation of contestants in many countries, the winners will have a guaranteed place for the competition next year 2023.
