Awesome sound. The musical.
“But... what brought us here? What brought us here today, friends, is salsa. Salsa is roots, it is heritage, it is past and present.
The event is a tribute to the Fania All Stars and marks the end of Sonido Bestial, the musical, a creation that can be considered the best tribute to salsa in Barcelona in years.
With a mix of musical and jukebox classics, this show manages to thrill the audience in many different ways. On the one hand, an orchestra of more than 10 musicians performs all the musical pieces live. Then there is a dance company with 20 professional dancers performing original choreography for this work. A mixture of color, rhythm, and dance of the highest level. And finally, there is a story. A theatrical piece that brings together the different moments of Latin music in New York. A story of emigration. A story of the fusion of rhythms and races. A story of passion for dance and music.
Sonido Bestial, the musical, is a journey through the different Latin rhythms that fused in New York in the 1940s and created what we now know as salsa. Co-directed by Sebastián Ibarra and Julio Napoles, the nearly two-hour show describes two worlds.
Set in the 1970s, we see a traditional shoe store in New York's Latin Quarter, run by an immigrant and his daughter. He is stuck in the memory of his native Cuba, and she was born in the big city, with everything modern and current ahead of her. And we will have another dreamlike world, a mixture of memories and fantasies, which will transport the characters to different musical passages.
And on that musical journey there will be rumba, son, cha cha cha, bogaloo, tap dancing, mambo, pachanga. There will also be classics of the era such as Fly Me to the Moon, Feeling Good, and Sex Machine, to reflect everything that was happening in the Big Apple at that time.
Sonido Bestial, the musical is a different kind of show. It is a magic box containing history, passion, memory, roots, and feeling. And in terms of the show itself, it is a musical with a live orchestra, incredible choreography, and a very dedicated physical performance that leaves no one indifferent.
Performance: September 24. Starts at 8:30 p.m. Sala Parallel 62. Barcelona.
Approximate duration: 110 minutes.
Genre: a mix between a classic musical and a jukebox musical.
