Guaguancó Festival 2024
The festival was good overall.
1. Facilities - were good and ajusted to the needs of the workshops and party. The rooms were nice and the pool area was beautiful (bummer there were no pool parties though..)
2. Artists - great set of artists that gave very good workshop, but did not even tried (at least from my perspective) to dance with the students...
3. Show - the Idea of putting those 2 bands one after one was amazing! Habana 7 was great and Elito + Mayito + Paulito together gave an extatic dance feel!
The only (very BIG) problem was the sound. I think the sound man done a very bad job, and I'm still trying to recover from the beeps inside my ear canals after the show. The treble was soooo intense that in was DANGEROUS to human ears!!! Please look into this on the next time you plan a show.
4. Food - Actually the idea of a full-board experience in a festival is amazing - and save a lot of time during the between the workshops. I came back from the festival with a stomech ache, so I don't know about the quality of the food.
5. DJs - most of the DJs put weird music, a lot of LIVE versions of songs and very fast music which make me as a dancer, become exhausted quicker.
I would like to highlight Tomer Ben-David, to my opinion - he gave wonderful sets, and you should keep him as a DJ for the next years to come.
6. Social time vs. Comptitions/Shows - to my opinion, as the cuban dance is first a social dance, there should be more space for socials during the night, and especially during the day. The bulk of competitions make a lot of idel time that no one else doing anything or dancing except watching.. which should not be as a part of a festival to my opinion. In one sentence - LESS WATCHING - MORE DANCING.
I think that's all.
